Project Description

FORT WILLIAM HEALTHCARE CENTRE

FORT WILLIAM HEALTHCARE CENTRE

Designed and completed by Stuart Dallas whilst a partner at Young & Gault Architects.

The Fort William Healthcare Centre brings together under one roof: 3 GP Practices; several Highland NHS Trust departments and clinics; Social Work services; Dentistry and, a Pharmacy.

The building is designed around a central common mall area or ‘hub’. Efforts were made to let as much daylight as possible into this ‘hub’ which creates a welcoming bright and modern environment for visitors and staff.

On entering the ‘hub’ the visitor is provided with direct and visual connections to the different receptions for each of the departments, clinics, services and GP practices. All waiting areas are visible from the different receptions for communication and security purposes. Consulting corridors radiate from each reception, and the required functionality and connections for each of the different health and social services provided in the building was achieved by the careful planning of vertical and horizontal circulation routes.

The Fort William Healthcare Centre was shortlisted in the Building Better Healthcare awards (Best Project Team and Best Primary Care Design 2008).
