RUTLAND SURGERY – GLASGOW

RUTLAND SURGERY – GLASGOW

Designed and completed by Stuart Dallas whilst a partner at Young & Gault Architects.

A modern state-of-the-art medical facility constructed on a brownfield site that was once part of a galvanising plant associated with Glasgow’s shipbuilding heritage. The BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rated surgery has a contemporary welcoming appearance and extends to approximately 600 square metres over two storeys. The accommodation provided over two levels includes 4 consulting rooms, a training room, a nurse room, conference facilities and separate self-contained office spaces.

The client joined forces with local charity Bullwood and local craftsman Paul Hodgkiss to enable the wood from felled trees on the site to be reused and made into beautifully crafted waiting room furniture and reception desks, plus sculptures and artworks inside and outside the building. The external galvanized fence and wooden sculpture made from a railway sleeper reference the site’s former identity as a galvanizing works and railway goods yard.
